Soy vs. Whey, Body by Vi vs. Ensure vs.Boost etc…

This article is hopefully going to clear up some misinformation about various protein shakes out there.  These days it is becoming increasingly important to know what we are putting into our bodies.  Our environment is becoming more toxic and thus so is our food. Food manufacturers are putting things into our foods that really should not be there even if the FDA and the CFIA approve them.  These manufacturers are allowed to indulge in tricky advertising practices that leave the average person who doesn’t want to make a career out of nutrition wondering if they are making the best choices.  Those who are interested in being healthy want it simple.  They want a protein shake that is going to give their body the fuel it needs to operate best. I am going to compare the Body by Vi shakes to the Isagenix Isalean shake but you could sub any of the popular shake brands in for Body by Vi, including Boost, Ensure, Slim Fast and Carnation and I will tell you what to look for.

Here are some important and significant differences between these two shakes:

  • Body by Vi uses Sucralose (an artificial sweetener) and artificial flavorings. The Isalean shake has none of this and is sweetened with fructose (different from high fructose corn syrup) from organic beets and pears.
  • Body by Vi is not a complete meal replacement, it is more like a snack. The IsaLean Shake is a low-glycemic, complete meal replacement that contains balanced nutrients including fats, carbohydrates and proteins.
  • The first ingredient in the Vi-shape Shake label is soy protein, which is inferior to whey protein. Whey protein is the first ingredient in the IsaLean Shake and it boosts the immune system by up to 300%.
  • The organic difference. The Isalean shakes contain organic whey protein from New Zealand. The Body by Vi shake is soy based which is an allergen for many people.
  • The Isalean shakes contain many more vitamins and minerals than the Body by Vi by a long shot.  A quick snapshot shows the following:
Isalean Shakes                            Body by Vi Shakes
Vitamin A 50% 30%
Vitamin C 40% 30%
Calcium 40% 30%
Iron 6% 5%
Vitamin D 80% 30%
Vitamin E 35% 30%
If you are looking for something that is pure, fresh and healthy, by pass those shakes that have sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavourings, sweeteners and colors.  If you want to read an article on Boost and Ensure, click the hyperlink.  To purchase Isalean Shakes at wholesale click here.

Do yourself a disservice. Don’t take supplements.

Recently I have met  several nutritionists who tell me that they don’t believe in supplementation. They encourage their clients to eat only whole foods. I am saddened and surprised by this.  What is not to believe?  What are they learning in their studies?   Unfortunately, it isn’t just people who graduated from university 30 years ago who are spouting this information, these are recent graduates.

It has been proven time and time again by science that our soils are extremely depleted of minerals and that in the 1970s we could eat one apple and get a solid amount of nutrition but now we would have to eat 10 apples to get the equivalent value of nutrition as in 1970.

Here are some stats:

*Based on 100 Grams, Edible Portion. Source: USDA food composition tables

Iron Content in Selected Fruits

…………………………1975…………..2001……….Net Change

Apples…………….0.3 mg………0.18 mg………Down 40%

Bananas………….0.7 mg………0.31 mg………Down 55.7%

Grapefruits………0.4 mg……….0.06 mg………Down 85%

Oranges…………..0.4 mg………0.10 mg……….Down 75%

Peaches………….0.5 mg……….0.11 mg………Down 78%

Strawberries……1.0 mg……….0.38 mg……….Down 62%

Tangerines………0.4 mg………..0.1 mg………..Down 75%

Watermelons…..0.5 mg……….0.17 mg………..Down 66%

Vitamin A Content in Selected Fruits*

…………………………..1975………2001……..Net Change

Apples……………….90 IU……….53 IU……..Down 41.1%

Bananas…………..190 IU……….81 IU……..Down 57.4%

Grapefruits………….80 IU………10 IU………Down 87.5%

Peaches…………1330 IU…….535 IU………Down 59.8%

Pineapples…………70 IU………23 IU……….Down 55%

Strawberries………60 IU……….27 IU……….Down 67.1%

Watermelons……590 IU…….366 IU………..Down 38%

Vitamin C Content in Selected Fruits*

Cherries…………10 mg………..7 mg……….Down 30%

Grapefruits……..38 mg……33.3 mg………Down 12.4%

Lemons………….77 mg………53 mg……….Down 31.2%

Pineapples…….17 mg……15.4 mg………..Down 9.4%

A good way to get what you need is to take a fruit and veggie supplement.  Of course, there are so many other important supplements to be taking but if you want to start slowly, having something like this and adding it to your morning shake or having it on its own would be a very wise idea.  These are the two products that I use and like Isafruits & Isagenix Greens

Who doesn’t love back to school time?  Even though I don’t go back to school, I love this time of the year.  I work well with structure and all of a sudden life has a bit more structure when September starts.  For all of those who have over-indulged this summer and want to lose weight, this Isagenix health challenge is for you.  This is an excellent program for anyone to start on, whether you are working with a personal trainer, taking Pilates and yoga classes regularly or not even exercising at all, you will benefit.

How it works:

  • Have a goal in mind
  • Schedule a free phone or skype Personal Analysis with me.
  • Grab a friend or two to do it with you for support.
  • The program will be designed based on your needs and you will go for it!

On average in 30 days, my male clients lose 20-30lbs and my female clients will lose on average 15-20 lbs.  In a study conducted by Dr. Michael Colgan, a group of 6 male triathletes gained .7lbs of muscle and lost 3% body fat in a 30 day period.  So whoever you are, elite athlete, someone who doesn’t want to be the victim of a heart attack or just someone who knows that preventative health measures are important and you want to make a permanent and healthy lifestyle change, this is an excellent time to start.  The cost is less than $10 per day and includes 2 meal replacements, supplements and cleanse.  You can’t get a healthy meal for less than $5 anymore, maybe a Starbucks coffee but not a meal.

Do it with 2 friends and get a Visa gift card loaded with up to $150, do it with more friends and get more!

Please visit my website to fill out the form on the bottom right and let me know when is the best time to reach you www.cleanseenergy.com  I am based in Vancouver and Arizona but work with clients in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Canada, Puerto Rico and the U.S.

Along came Frank … it is never too late.

Old man smilingA few weekends ago I met an inspiring man named Frank who gave an impactful and heartfelt speech about his years working hard labor.  Frank spent 60 years working in the construction industry and during those years he was exposed to heavy metals and excessive toxins, as well as enormous mental stressors. Together with poor eating and working habits and a bad attitude that he readily admits to, his body revolted and in 1985 at the age of 59 he experienced severe burn out.  Two and a half years later he was still only partially recovered but he went back to work. At his toxic job, Frank was exposed on a daily basis to dangerous chemicals that touched his skin and that he breathed into his lungs.  As he aged he suffered what many people might just consider the luck of the draw when it comes to aging, and in 1995 at the age of  69 he started to experience tremors, attacks of anxiety and fatigue so severe that he often felt like throwing himself down wherever he might be. The pressure pains in his head became progressively worse until he felt like it would explode and he feared that he was losing his mind.

Then in October 2010, at the age of 85, what seemed like a miracle appeared in his life. Frank ‘s son and daughter-in-law introduced him to Isagenix (click there to watch a video and get more information) and the changes that happened were incredible. Within three weeks the fatigue and anxiety attacks disappeared. Within three months the head pressure pains disappeared and within four months, the years of stomach and intestinal problems were gone.  Frank started to experience increased energy and mental clarity. When I met him he had traveled from Kelowna to Vancouver, a 4 hour trip, to share his incredible story, this is a trip that would not have been possible for him only a few months earlier.
I love Frank’s story because it is a feel good story and who doesn’t like that?  But it is so much more. It reminds us that it is never too late to start taking care of our bodies.  The body is a miracle.  If you give your body the fuel it needs, if you clean it up from the inside out, it will absorb the nutrients you are putting into it and it will start to perform the way that nature intended.  Sadly, the majority of the population takes better care of their cars than they do of their bodies.  You only have one body and you can’t trade it in or trade up, so start taking action and start taking care.  If I can be of assistance, please get in touch.  To your good health!  Cari-Lee 604 800 8300 480 684 2544
