How I went from working 80 hours a week,

to being stopped dead in my tracks.

My journey into entrepreneurship started at the age of 14. When I was a kid, my parents were at their wits end, looking for something to get me involved in that I would like. It took awhile but when I was 12, they put me in dance class and I loved it. In fact, I excelled at it and when I was 14, I started teaching dance and aerobics to adults.  Since then,  I have been self employed, save for twice when I worked for others. Once was as a hairdresser and the second was a short stint at a government office to earn money for university. Those two experiences showed me that I was not fulfilled working in a business run by someone else. They were great learning experiences because they taught me what I didn’t want. What I did want… well that took me a while to figure out but once I did, I was eternally grateful that I didn’t take the path of least resistance.

I built a successful thriving fitness business.

I did it all, dance, aerobics, Pilates, personal training, myofascial release, you name it. If I didn’t know it and there was a demand, I learned it. Business was going gangbusters. I was working myself to the bone but I had a goal to get ahead and set myself up for success. Work hard now, press cruise control later.

Well, life, God, the universe, however you like to think of it, had another plan for me.

I became very sick and ultimately I became paralyzed. The Doctors didn’t know what was wrong and it took months of tests to finally get the answer. I had no idea how I would survive if I couldn’t work. All the income I brought in, depended on me being fully functioning. Long story short, I advocated for my health and I healed myself. Through this experience, or blessing in disguise as I like to think of it, I faced my fear and did what I had always wanted to do and that was to create a no overhead business that wasn’t dependent on me. Over the years I have tweaked and expanded upon this business model and I am happy to share with you what has worked well for me. My latest project has been short term vacation rentals.               10 FUN FACTS

When I was in my 20s my goal was to retire by 40.

One of my favorite saying is: Comparison is the thief of joy.

I like eternal summer, which is why I haven’t experienced a cold winter in over 9 years.

I like the sun but never sunbathe. Ever!

I am crazy for Country music. Go figure? 3 years ago I didn’t like it at all.

My favorite drink next to water is wine. I love Rombauer.

I became a vegetarian at age of 11 and many years later began eating vegan.

My favorite holiday destination is anywhere I can immerse myself in the culture and practise the language.

I am crafty but I am not accomplished in any one area. Ask me to knit you a hat and you will see it next year.

Some of my favorites: knitting, woodworking, silversmithing and lapidary.I am a great cook and I like to bake.

What is the best cleanse for weight loss?

It can be confusing when it comes to the best way to lose weight. I am often asked what is the best cleanse for weight loss. Unfortunately there is no magic pill. Wouldn’t it be great if there was? As I was working out with my trainer yesterday I said exactly that. My...

Is Cleansing Bad for you?

I am a big proponent of cleansing and intermittent fasting.  It took me awhile to get to this point as I had a very negative idea about cleansing. The cleanses that I knew about were the ones that put the body into starvation, i.e. the Master Cleanse (cayenne pepper,...

2014 my year in review.

My year in review. The year 2013, ended with a bang, quite literally.  My plan was to spend 4 to 5 months in Mexico from December into the new year.   On December 18th I was woken to the sounds of what I thought was dumpsters rolling along the pavement.  I had rented...

Vegan Alfredo Sauce

I always feel like I should enjoy Alfredo sauces more than I do.  I am not sure what it is about them ... I have no problem with cream or cheese but it always feels like it is lacking something - and truth be told, I am much happier without the dairy in my diet.  Here...
